Nine movie trailer

MOVIE PREVIEW

Nine is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The story is based on an Italian play by Mario Fratti inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½. It focuses on film director Guido Contini, savoring his most recent (and greatest) success but facing his fortieth birthday and a midlife crisis blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice.

The original Broadway production opened in 1982 and ran for 729 performances, starring Raúl Juliá. The musical won five Tony Awards, including best musical, and has enjoyed a number of revivals

On April 12, 2007, Variety announced that Rob Marshall would direct a feature film adaptation of Nine for the Weinstein Company. Marshall had previously directed Chicago for the Weinsteins while they were still at Miramax. According to Playbill, the screenplay is being written by Michael Tolkin. As of July 18, 2008, the cast consists of Nicole Kidman, Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson and Fergie. The film is set to be co-produced by Marshall's own production company Lucamar Productions. It is expected to be released sometime in 2009.
