MOVIE PREVIEW
The Green Hornet is an upcoming 2011 superhero action film directed by Michel Gondry. Gondry replaced Stephen Chow, who had previously planned to direct the film as a comedy. The film is scheduled to be released on January 14, 2011. It is an adaptation of the radio and television character The Green Hornet. It was announced on April 22, 2010 that the film would be converted to 3-D.
The film is to be released in both in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D, as well as in 2D and regular IMAX format.
Newspaper publisher Britt Reid moonlights as a masked crimefighter called The Green Hornet accompanied by his similarly masked Asian valet, martial arts expert Kato. Despite his heroic intentions, he is considered so disreputable among legitimate law enforcement that he is able to talk casually with known criminals and even do business with them.
CAST & CREW
- Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet: The hero of the film; a newspaper publisher, who is secretly the masked crimefighter 'The Green Hornet'. At San Diego Comic-Con International 2009, Rogen stated that the film will explain Reid's motivation for fighting crime.
- Jay Chou as Kato: The Green Hornet's Asian valet and sidekick, who is expertly proficient in martial arts. Chou got the role after Stephen Chow, who was also set to direct the film, backed out of both responsibilities due to scheduling conflicts.
- Cameron Diaz as Lenore "Casey" Case: While both the radio and television incarnations depicted the Casey as Britt Reid's secretary and confidante, the character has been rewritten for the film as "an amateur gumshoe with a penchant for CSI-style TV, who will be unaware of the Reid/Hornet connection."
- Christoph Waltz as Benjamin Chudnofsky: A gangster villain created for the film that will reportedly attempt to join all of the mafias of Los Angeles together to form a "super-mafia." Nicolas Cage was originally in talks to play the role of the famed villain, Mr. X. Rogen described the character thus:
“There was no classic villain, so we had to create a villain… [he's] not over-the-top. We wanted him to be very scary… We don’t feel that that’s where the comedy in the movie should come from, necessarily.”
- Edward James Olmos will play Mike Axford, Tom Wilkinson will play Britt Reid's father, and David Harbour has been cast in an unnamed role.It was rumored that Adam Sandler will have a brief role in the film, but as this was before Gondry signed on as director, it is unknown if this will still occur. Gondry had previously stated that Van Williams, who played the character in the television series, would make a cameo but this is no longer the case Internet Movie Database listed New England independent pro wrestler Barry Ace as playing himself in the film. But Ace publicly stated on his official website's blog that although he would've loved to be part of this film, he was never in negotiations with the film's producers; and has no idea why that was listed on IMDb.The false credit has since been removed.
